Cloak/anti-cloak interactions.
Coordinate-transformation cloaking is based on the design of a metamaterial shell made of an anisotropic, spatially inhomogeneous "transformation medium" that allows rerouting the impinging wave around a given region of space. In its original version, it is generally believed that, in the ideal limit, the radiation cannot penetrate the cloaking shell (from outside to inside, and viceversa). How...
متن کاملElectromagnetic wave interactions with a metamaterial cloak.
We establish analytically the interactions of electromagnetic wave with a general class of spherical cloaks based on a full wave Mie scattering model. We show that for an ideal cloak the total scattering cross section is absolutely zero, but for a cloak with a specific type of loss, only the backscattering is exactly zero, which indicates the cloak can still be rendered invisible with a monosta...
متن کاملStudy of the Parameters Affecting Cylindrical Cloak Using Dispersive FDTD
In this paper, an ideal cylindrical metamaterial invisibility cloak with infinite-length which its electric permittivity and magnetic permeability mapped to the Drude dispersion model is simulated. The sinusoidal plane waves with microwave frequencies used as sources. To this end, the dispersive finite-difference time-domain method (FDTD) used with Convolutional Perfectly Matched Layered (CPML)...
متن کاملElectromagnetic forces on a discrete spherical invisibility cloak under time-harmonic illumination.
We study electromagnetic forces and torques on a discrete spherical invisibility cloak under time-harmonic illumination. We consider the influence of material absorption and losses, and we show that while the impact of absorption on the optical force remains confined to frequencies near the absorption peak, its impact on the electromagnetic torque experienced by the cloak is spectrally broader ...
متن کاملInteractions between U(1) cosmic strings: An analytical study.
We derive analytic expressions for the interaction energy between two general U (1) cosmic strings as the function of their relative orientation and the ratio of the coupling constants in the model. The results are relevant to the statistic description of strings away from critical coupling and shed some light on the mechanisms involved in string formation and the evolution of string networks.
